Time Off

There is a young soldier. His lieutenant treats him very harshly. The unit is soon to be sent to Lebanon. Before that they are given one day of leave. They are to spend it in Jerusalem. There the soldier sees his lieutenant. He notices a side of him the man keeps from everyone. That knowledge changes the balance between them. The whole of the account takes place on that day off. The film was made as a short. Military hierarchy gives the account its frame. Harshness and silence are two sides of the same relationship. Gil Frank and Hanoch Re’im take the leads, with Tzufit Grant also in the cast, in Eytan Fox’s Israeli film of 1990.
