Traces of Sandalwood

Mina, a well known actress in Mumbai, has never forgotten the little sister she was forced to part from after their mother’s death. Thirty years later she learns that Sita is alive and living in Barcelona. But the family who adopted her have erased every trace of her past; she is now called Paula, works as a researcher in biology and knows nothing of her Indian background. Faced with the truths of her past she sets out on a long journey in search of her own roots. Along the way a closeness grows between her and Prakash, an Indian immigrant. The film offers adoption as neither a rescue nor a theft. The account gives the two cities equal weight. Nandita Das and Aina Clotet appear in Maria Ripoll’s ninety five minute film, completed in 2014.
