In June 2001 hundreds of kilos of cocaine washed ashore at the village of Rabo de Peixe in the Azores. In this small place that lives by fishing and where unemployment is heavy, those who found the sacks did not at first understand what they were; before long the drug spread through the village and the consequences went on for years. The documentary does not tell the event as an adventure; it talks to the people who lived through that day, to the police and to the families who later had to deal with addiction. João Marques’s eighty nine minute Portuguese documentary started from a real event, the same event that had earlier been the subject of a drama series. It was completed in 2025.
