What Tuvalu Is About

Anton works at a decrepit indoor swimming pool. It belongs to his father, who is blind and believes business is good. To keep that belief going Anton performs small tricks every day. Martha at the cash desk helps him. His brother Gregor wants the pool torn down and new buildings put up in its place. And there is Eva, whom Anton loves. Anton's real dream is something else: there is a place called Tuvalu and he wants to go there. In the end the fight over the pool and that dream cross. Veit Helmer directs; ninety-two minutes, with Denis Lavant as Anton. It was shot in the old central baths in Sofia. There is almost no speech in it; the story runs on images, sound and faces, and the colours change from scene to scene.
