What Twin Sisters Is About
In 2003 two babies found in a cardboard box in China, Mia and Alexandra, are placed in an orphanage and sent separately for adoption; the authorities not only split the twins but tell nobody that they are twins. One goes to California, the other to a small village in Norway. The two families meeting during the adoption process in China, and the coincidences they later put down to fate, set off an investigation that reveals the girls are sisters. The documentary follows both families and the growing children over years, and what it means to grow up in different countries becomes visible case by case. Mona Friis Bertheussen’s fifty eight minute Norwegian production was completed in 2013.
