Udaharanam Sujatha

Sujatha works in houses and in factories, holding to the dream of putting her daughter through school. Her daughter Athira does not take schooling seriously. Being the child of a domestic worker, she assumes she will end up where her mother did. Sujatha looks for ways to break that assumption and wake something competitive in her. The film does not offer education alone as a promise of escape; it also shows the ceiling that class puts in place. The mother’s effort is at the centre, but the daughter’s resistance rests on reasons of its own. The tension between the two carries the story. Manju Warrier and Anaswara Rajan appear in the hundred and twenty six minute Indian film, a remake, directed by Phantom Praveen and completed in 2017.
