What Up the Junction Is About

Polly, the daughter of a well-off Chelsea family, leaves that life, moves to Battersea and takes a job in a factory; her purpose, as she puts it, is to see real life. She makes friends with the girls at the factory, goes about with the young people of the district and takes up with a young man named Peter. But however much the difference of class is papered over it does not go away: one of her friends goes to an illegal abortion after an unwanted pregnancy, and it becomes plain that Polly has a home she can return to whenever she likes. Peter Collinson’s hundred and nineteen minute British film was adapted from Nell Dunn’s book.
