What Life Is Sweet Is About
A few weeks in the life of one family just north of London. Wendy works in a shop and laughs at everything, Andy is a cook who has bought a wrecked snack caravan he never gets round to fixing. Of the twins, Natalie is a plumber who says little, while Nicola is jobless, furious and hiding an eating disorder from everyone. Mike Leigh builds no plot, just kitchens, gardens and doorways where things accumulate, and lets comedy and disaster occupy the same scene without warning.
