Utopia

John Pilger's 2013 documentary is about the living conditions of Indigenous people in Australia. It takes its name from a settlement in the centre of the country, where Pilger sets figures on housing, health and detention against each other. The argument is that this is not a matter left in the past. Health indicators and rates of imprisonment are brought forward, and Pilger publishes his interviews with ministers of the day, pressing them hard. The documentary openly takes a side and does not hide it. The narrative places government statements next to counter-evidence. Pilger was a journalist whose method was itself debated.
