Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2

Kaali runs a provision store. He lives with his wife, his son and his elderly mother; he opens in the morning, closes in the evening, and has business with nobody. There are people in the town who know him but nobody talks about his past. One night a man comes. He knows the work Kaali used to do and wants something. Kaali refuses. Then his son disappears. Over one night several groups move at the same time in the town: a politician, a policeman, a gang and Kaali. Who knows what opens slowly. S. U. Arun Kumar writes and directs. Vikram plays Kaali; S. J. Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Dushara Vijayan are in the cast. The language is Tamil. The film opened on 27 March 2025. Its title says second part but the first has not been made; the director deliberately starts the story at the second part and what came before is to be told later. The narrative takes place over one night and the events run on several lines at once. The matter it treats is a past that cannot be left; Kaali has built an ordinary life and it comes apart in one night. The narrative delays its information; the connections between the characters are made at the end. The character S. J. Suryah plays is its most striking side. The photography is dark and the violence is kept short. Its limit is structure; the narrative starts slowly, the missing information tires in the first half, and the ending ties into what is to come. Who it is for: viewers who like Tamil thrillers and narratives set over a night. Who it is not for: it is slow, confusing, and the ending does not close.
