Vegucated

Three New Yorkers promise to try a vegan diet for six weeks. All three love meat and cheese and have never given the matter any thought. They learn to read labels while shopping, to eat out, to explain the situation to their families. Halfway through they see how animal production works, and a decision that started as a question of diet turns into something else. Marisa Miller Wolfson's documentary does not hide which side it is on: it argues for veganism and sets out to convince the viewer. For its health claims it turns to figures such as T. Colin Campbell and Joel Fuhrman; some of those claims are still contested within nutrition science. Where the film stands strongest is not the numbers but what the three people actually go through over six weeks.
