Welcome

Two brothers from the criminal world want to marry off their sister, and no family will consider being related to them. Eventually they find an ordinary man whose own family is trying to marry him off. His uncle, meanwhile, insists the bride's family must be respectable. Anees Bazmee directed. The cast includes Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal and Feroz Khan. It became one of the biggest comedy earners of its year in India and grew into a series. The humour rests entirely on types: gangsters who forget themselves and turn polite, misunderstandings, and lies that keep expanding. Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor carry the film; setting them up as serious criminals and having them play comedy is its engine. It is far too long and comes apart in the second half, with the plot extended by one coincidence after another. It is among Feroz Khan's last films. Who it is for: viewers who like crowded Bollywood comedy. Who it is not for: anyone after subtlety; the whole film is played at a shout.
