What Deewangee Is About
The lawyer Raj Goyal takes on the defence of Tarang Bharadwaj, a composer accused of murdering a businessman. The accused has been diagnosed with a split personality, and as the case goes on the question of who is who grows larger than the case itself. Written and directed by Anees Bazmee, the film’s first half is adapted from Primal Fear of 1996, which came from William Diehl’s novel. It opened on 25 October 2002. It was Ajay Devgn’s first villainous part and won him the Filmfare award for best villain; Akshaye Khanna plays the lawyer and Urmila Matondkar the third lead. For Bazmee, known for comedies, it was a change of genre.
