What White Paws Is About
It takes place in a small port on the Breton coast. A fish merchant who also keeps a tavern brings Odette, a girl from a poor family, with him and passes her off as his niece. In the same town lives Julien de Keriadec, alone in a crumbling château; they call him white paws because of the spats he wears. When Julien makes his approach to the woman he puts himself in danger, because no relationship in that town is what it appears to be. The film was adapted from the play by Jean Anouilh. Fernand Ledoux and Suzy Delair appear in Jean Gremillon’s ninety two minute French film, completed in 1949.
