What Wild Target Is About

Victor Meynard is a contract killer. Fifty, fastidious, still living with his mother, and immaculate at the work. Lately, though, pulling the trigger has got harder. His new job is a woman: Renée, who sells forged paintings. A fake Rembrandt sold to the mob has put her on the list. Victor watches her and cannot shoot. Meanwhile there is Antoine, a young man he was supposed to kill and did not. The three of them end up on the run together, and Victor's orderly life comes entirely apart. Pierre Salvadori's first film. Eighty-seven minutes, with Jean Rochefort as Victor, Marie Trintignant as Renée and Guillaume Depardieu as Antoine. It won the César for best first feature in 1994. It was remade in Britain in 2010.
