WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception

The documentary takes up the media during the Iraq War. According to the film there were two wars at that time. One was the military assault. The other was the war carried out through the media. According to the work the first was widely covered. The second was not. The film turns the camera on the press itself. It takes up the administration’s propaganda and the part the press played in it. The position the film argues is this: that the two together misled the public. That judgement is the work’s own. Danny Schechter, who made it, is a television journalist. The account rests on archive footage and interviews. Peter Arnett also appears in Schechter’s American documentary of 2004, which runs ninety eight minutes.
