Word Is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives

More than twenty people speak in the documentary. Those speaking are women and men. Their ages, their backgrounds and where they come from differ. Each of them tells their own life to the camera. The subject is living as a gay or lesbian person. What they say is set out roughly in order of time. The early years come first. Then the effort to fit in is described. For some of them that meant marriage. After that come the moments of coming out. The lives built in adulthood are told as well. At the end they speak about what has changed. They speak about how things ought to be too. Sally M. Gearhart and Pat Bond appear in the hundred and thirty two minute documentary, with Harry Hay and Elsa Gidlow also taking part, an American production whose directors include Rob Epstein and Peter Adair.
