Yessongs

The film sets down a concert by the group Yes. It was played at the Rainbow Theatre in London in December 1972. Five members of the band are on stage. The pieces are built out of long movements. Each one divides into sections like a symphony. Close to the Edge, All Good People and Roundabout are among them. The band folds classical music into rock within the same arrangement. Passages that recall medieval music come in between. The lyrics work in a mystical and abstract language. The group is counted within the progressive rock movement. The footage was gathered during that tour. The film runs on music from beginning to end. The playing carries the sound the band had in those years. What remains is a visual document of that concert. Jon Anderson and Steve Howe appear in the seventy two minute film, a British production Peter Neal finished in 1975.
