What Zátopek Is About

In the autumn of 1968 the Australian record holder Ron Clarke comes to Prague, at the worst point of his career, hoping for an answer from the man he grew up admiring. Their conversations carry the film backwards: to Helsinki in 1952, where Zátopek won the five thousand and the ten thousand metres and then entered the first marathon of his life and won that too, and to his wife Dana Zátopková, who took the javelin gold about an hour after his five thousand. The two of them were born on the same day, 19 September 1922. David Ondříček builds a portrait about what winning costs rather than a sporting epic. Václav Neužil plays the runner and Martha Issová his wife.
