Nozomi and Lana share a flat. Both are actors and both are up for the same part; the audition is tomorrow. The flat has two rooms, a kitchen and a living room. The evening begins. Small things accumulate: whose shampoo was used, who did not wash up, who is on the phone to whom. The talk hardens. Then the words run out. The fight starts and does not stop. A knife from the kitchen, scissors from the bathroom and electrical appliances from the living room come into it. The two women spend the whole night this way. Yukihiko Tsutsumi writes and directs. Maho Nonami and Eiko Koike are in the cast. It is a Japanese production. The film was made on a wager; two directors agreed to each make a film under the same constraints, and the rules were these: one location, two characters, a short shoot. It was completed in eight days on a very low budget. Its form is escalation; each scene goes a little further than the last and there is no going back. Interior speech is used; what the two characters think is given to the audience and contradicts what they say. The matter it treats is rivalry; the system of comparison in the acting trade is taken as a direct subject. It runs short and the narrative stops nowhere. Its limit is scale; it is a work of one idea with no depth of character. Who it is for: viewers who like Japanese genre cinema and experiments in confined spaces. Who it is not for: the violence is explicit, the subject narrow, and the ending overblown.
