What A Girl in Australia Is About
An Italian who emigrated to Australia places an advertisement to find a wife from home. The Italian title is that advertisement: handsome, honest, emigrant to Australia, would marry a compatriot of unblemished virtue. The woman who arrives has a past that fits none of his requirements. Luigi Zampa's comedy is mostly mocking the requirements themselves, showing how absurd and how cruel a demand built on virginity is. Alberto Sordi was expert at playing men of exactly this shape, with Claudia Cardinale opposite him.
