A Soft Note on a Sharp Scale

The events take place in Calcutta in the fifties. India has recently been partitioned. The city has taken in refugees and grown crowded. There is a theatre movement. It is called IPTA and its line is radical. A split has opened in its leadership, though. Two opposing groups have formed. The argument between them is about art. Everyone describes the right road their own way. In that setting two people grow closer. Their names are Bhrigu and Anusuya. Both were uprooted by the partition. What forms between them moves in the shadow of the arguments. Supriya Choudhury and Abanish Banerjee appear in the hundred and twenty four minute film, an Indian production Ritwik Ghatak finished in 1961.
