Alappuzha Gymkhana

Jojo and his friends have failed their twelfth year examinations. There is another way into college: the sports quota. They need only pick a sport and place in it. They pick boxing. None of them knows anything about boxing and all of them think it will be easy. They enrol at a club. The coach Antony gives them no time and tells them the truth: there is no short way to this. The training starts. They are beaten in the ring for the first time. The tournament comes closer and the group starts to break up. Khalid Rahman directs. Naslen K. Gafoor plays Jojo and Lukman Avaran the coach; Ganapathi S. Poduval and Sandeep Pradeep are in the cast. The language is Malayalam. It opened on 10 April 2025 and went to SonyLIV in June. It was made on a low budget and took an unexpected success at the box office, entering the highest grossing Malayalam productions of 2025. The narrative withholds the victory the sports film shape promises; the outcome does not land where it is expected. The boxing is kept realistic; the actors trained at length and the cutting avoids exaggeration. The matter it treats is whether the goal is real; the group does not like boxing, it only wants to get into college. The humour is built through character and the narrative gives no lesson anywhere. Its limit is structure; the first half is loose and there are many characters. Who it is for: viewers who like Malayalam cinema and unconventional sports films. Who it is not for: the pace is uneven, the characters crowded, and the ending does not meet expectation.
