Sarpatta Parambarai

In seventies North Chennai the boxing clubs are divided by clan and the rivalry between Sarpatta and Idiyappa has run for generations. Kabilan, a dock worker, loves watching the fights, but his mother forbids him the ring because of what happened to his father. When the trainer Rangan takes him on his life changes, and the conflict between the clubs quickly becomes a political matter. Pa. Ranjith builds the sports story directly through caste and class; who can enter the ring is as much the subject as who wins in it. Arya leads and prepared at length for the fights. The period design, the background of Tamil politics and the crowds make up the film's texture. It is long and the pace does not drop. Who it is for: viewers who like Tamil cinema and sports films with a social background. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a short, plain boxing story.
