What And Just Like That... The Documentary Is About
Fabien Constant's 2022 documentary covers the production of the continuation, filmed twenty years later, of a television series that began in the nineties. The camera is on set, in rehearsal rooms and at costume fittings. What is interesting is what returning means. The performers and writers argue about what has to change in carrying the characters into present conditions, and the criticised aspects of the original are openly discussed. Against that, the documentary was commissioned by the broadcaster and its promotional function is pronounced. Difficulties are passed over briefly and the result is not questioned; the narrative is largely celebratory. Who it's for: those who watched the series and like production documentaries. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a critical view; the documentary stays with the production's own account.
