What Angelique: The Road to Versailles Is About
The second film in the Angélique series, and hard to start with: how she lost her husband and why she ended up on the street is told in the first one. Here Angélique falls into the criminal underworld beneath Paris; when the king of thieves who protects her is killed, she is alone again. After that, through several relationships and a series of calculations, she sets up her own business and grows wealthy. One of the more driving and lavish of the sixties French costume adventures. Its view of its heroine is very much a male one, even for its time.
