What Annamayya Is About
The film tells the life of Annamacharya, the Telugu poet and composer who lived in the fifteenth century. The road that begins when he goes to the temple as a child and writes his first hymn leads him to write, across his whole life, thousands of songs dedicated to the god at Tirupati. When the king summons him to court and asks him to write verse for him instead, he refuses and pays for it. The account gives the life of a saint in exalting terms, and scenes of faith and miracle are at its centre. Nagarjuna takes the lead in K. Raghavendra Rao’s hundred and fifty minute Telugu film, with Ramya Krishnan; the music became the most talked about part of it.
