Devil, My Friend

Fatih is a withdrawn musician who sings in bars and complains that nobody understands what he is doing. Every evening, going in and out of work, he talks to the mannequin in the window of the bridal shop next door. One night he quits his job and tells the mannequin he would sell his soul to the devil if that is what it takes. The devil appears at once and a bargain is struck, but nothing turns out as expected, and in the end the wickedness of people changes even the devil. Atıf Yılmaz directed it, drawing on Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus and looking hard at the music, media and advertising business of the eighties. It was Mazhar Alanson’s first film and the songs are by MFÖ, with Ali Poyrazoğlu, Yaprak Özdemiroğlu and Deniz Türkali in the cast.
