What Attacking the Devil: Harold Evans and the Last Nazi War Crime Is About
Before the internet, before social media and before breaking news, the children harmed by thalidomide and their families had one force behind them: investigative journalism. The documentary tells how Harold Evans, editor of the Sunday Times for fourteen years, took the case on. Distillers, the company that supplied the drug, sheltered behind the rules of contempt to stop the press discussing a matter before the courts; Evans and his team defied the Attorney General and the political establishment, published at the risk of imprisonment, and won the fight for compensation. Jacqui Morris and David Morris directed the ninety nine minute British documentary together, which took the special jury prize at Sheffield Doc/Fest and the Grierson award for best historical documentary in 2016.
