Bad Faith

The documentary opens with the attack on the Capitol on 6 January 2021. Armed militia members and QAnon followers were in the crowd that day. Crosses, Christian flags and religious signs were visible among them as well. The film asks why those people went there. It looks for the answer in Christian nationalism. It traces the movement back to Jerry Falwell and the circle around the Moral Majority. It describes how the tie between religion and politics was built. Experts, journalists and clergy speak. The account reaches up to the political programmes of the present day. This is openly a documentary that takes a side. It presents Christian nationalism as a threat to American democracy. It does not give equal room to the opposing view. It does not hide that either, and states its argument from the start. The viewer needs to watch it within that frame. Peter Coyote and William J. Barber II speak in the eighty nine minute documentary. It is an American production Stephen Ujlaki and Christopher Jacob Jones finished in 2024.
