Bhagam Bhag

A theatre company goes on tour to London. The leading actress leaves at the last moment and someone must be found at once. Bunty and Babla look. They find a woman and the tour begins. Then she disappears. There is blood in her room. The two are afraid to go to the police; they are in a foreign country and they are the suspects. They start looking for the body. Meanwhile another woman turns up using the same name. The misunderstandings pile on one another and who is who becomes entirely confused. Priyadarshan directs. Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Paresh Rawal and Lara Dutta are in the cast. The language is Hindi. Part of it was shot in London. Priyadarshan is known for comedies built on misunderstanding and this film belongs to that vein. Its form is farce; the plot rests not on logic but on speed. The narrative uses the shape of a murder mystery but builds no tension; every clue turns into a joke. The character Paresh Rawal plays carries the comic weight. The film did well at the Indian box office. The narrative is long and the song sections stop the plot. Its limit is rhythm; the jokes repeat, the narrative is too long, and the ending is rushed. Who it is for: viewers who like Indian comedy and films built on confusion. Who it is not for: it is long, loud, and logic is secondary.
