Martin Strel M Matthew Mohlke B Borut Strel What Big River Man Is About
Martin Strel is a Slovenian swimmer who has swum the Mississippi, the Danube and the Yangtze, each time on the stated grounds of drawing attention to river pollution. In February 2007 he goes into the Amazon: more than five thousand kilometres, and the longest continuous swim on record. He is past fifty, overweight and drinking two bottles of wine a day. John Maringouin's documentary does not declare him a hero; as it goes on it becomes a record of blood pressure, exhaustion and mental disintegration. It is also visible that the people around him are not sure what they are doing. It was nominated for the grand jury prize at Sundance and won the cinematography award.
