What Boiling Point Is About

Masaki, who works at a petrol station and plays amateur baseball, gets on the wrong side of the local yakuza and travels to Okinawa to find a gun. There he falls in with Uehara, a gangster deep in debt and planning revenge, who is as dangerous as he is helpful. Takeshi Kitano’s second film deploys violence with no warning at all and almost from inside the jokes: long becalmed scenes and then a sudden break. Kitano plays Uehara himself, and most of the style he later became known for is already assembled here.
