What Born Rich Is About
Jamie Johnson is one of the heirs to the Johnson & Johnson fortune and will take on a large inheritance when he turns twenty-one. He picks up a camera and talks to the young people around him: ten people who went to the same schools, belong to the same clubs and have never had to think about money. They say that talking about money is forbidden in their world. The documentary screened at Sundance in 2003. One of the participants sued to stop distribution so that what he had said would not get out; the case was dismissed and his section stayed in the film. Ivanka Trump and Georgina Bloomberg are among those who speak. Johnson does not criticise his own class from the outside, he tells it from within; that gives the film its strength and also marks its limit.
