What Burnt by the Sun Is About
Russia, 1936. Colonel Kotov, a hero of the revolution, is having an idyllic summer at his dacha with his young wife, his six year old daughter Nadia and a house full of family and friends. Dmitri arrives from Moscow and wins over the women and little Nadia easily, with his games and his piano playing. Kotov is not fooled: these are the years when a telephone call in the night is a sentence, and this is no social visit. Nikita Mikhalkov directed it, played Kotov, and cast his own daughter as Nadia. Terror compressed into a single summer day.
