Carbon Copy

Manuel Ismora is a burglar working on a large scale, and he and his gang carry out their jobs bloodlessly, tidily, almost politely. Elsewhere a colourless clerk who sells buttons, Gabriel Dupon, is being ground down by his employer. The two men look exactly alike, and Ismora begins putting the resemblance to use in his robberies. Dupon meanwhile falls for Coraline, Ismora’s mistress, who finds in this man a gentleness she has not met before. Louis Jouvet plays both parts and slips in and out of a duke, a removal man and an icy Norwegian along the way. Jean Dréville directed, Henri Jeanson wrote the dialogue and René Cloërec the music. Suzy Delair plays Coraline, with Annette Poivre and Jane Marken in support. It opened on 9 July 1947.
