Cold Fever

Hirata, a businessman in Japan, is planning a golfing holiday in Hawaii when his grandfather reminds him of something: seven years have passed since his parents died and the necessary rite has not been performed. His parents drowned in a river in a remote part of Iceland. Hirata cancels his plan and goes there. Fridrik Thor Fridriksson's film is a road movie. Hirata tries to cross Iceland in the middle of winter and meets one strange person after another on the way. The telling stands between comedy and mourning without confusing the two. Masatoshi Nagase plays Hirata; the Japanese director Seijun Suzuki plays the grandfather. Fridriksson wrote the screenplay together with Jim Stark. The landscape is the film's second character.
