Devil's Island

The film is set in the Iceland of the fifties. On the edge of Reykjavik stand American military barracks left empty after the war. In this place, called Camp Thule, the barracks have been turned into homes and people live in them. Making a living is hard, and women and men alike are trying to stay on their feet. The young talk about dollars, rock and roll and the American way of life. The account follows the daily life of one family, their neighbours and their friends. Some of the dreams that get built come true and some do not. The story is adapted from a novel. Baltasar Kormákur appears in Fridrik Thor Fridriksson’s film of 1996, a coproduction of four countries.
