Comfort and Indifference

The documentary is about the referendum on independence in Quebec. The vote was held in 1980. The film was made not long after it. The promises the politicians made are shown. Footage from the campaign is used. People are stopped and asked in the street. Everyone has an opinion. According to the film the greater part of them do not know the details. Nobody seems to care much about the outcome. The documentary reads that indifference in its own way. The account keeps a distance in its tone. Politicians of the period appear in the film. Archive footage comes in between. The film also argues over the result of the vote. Jean-Pierre Ronfard and Pierre Elliott Trudeau appear in the one hundred nine minute documentary. It is a Canadian production Denys Arcand finished in 1982.
