What Days of Darkness Is About
Jean-Marc is a mid level civil servant in Montreal whose wife and daughters barely register him, whose job means nothing to him, and who spends most of the day inside elaborate private fantasies of triumph and conquest. The only thing he genuinely feels is the time he spends with his ageing mother, whose health is going. When his wife leaves abruptly for a job in Toronto, he sets about rebuilding a life. Denys Arcand groups it with The Decline of the American Empire and The Barbarian Invasions, and it closed the Cannes festival in 2007.
