Confessions Among Actresses

The film takes up what actresses do and what they get from acting. At its centre are three women who act. The lives of all three are laid out openly. The account weaves scenes from their lives together with interviews. Each of them has been through something heavy in her past. The film draws a link between those events and the wish to become someone else; that link is the work’s own case. Where the line between a role and the real thing falls is the real subject. It comes out of the formal search in Japanese cinema of 1971. Mariko Okada and Ruriko Asaoka appear in Yoshishige Yoshida’s hundred and twenty four minute Japanese film, completed in 1971.
