Costa Concordia: Chronicle of a Disaster

The documentary takes up a shipwreck. The ship is the cruise liner Costa Concordia. The disaster happened on the night of the thirteenth of January 2012. The place is off the island of Giglio in Italy. The voyage had begun in a holiday mood. Panic and confusion took its place in a short time. The film reconstructs that night step by step. Footage rarely seen before is used. Survivors and crew members give their accounts. What they say shows the event was not merely a technical accident. Decisions, negligence and delays are inside the account too. The work gives room to the search and rescue and to the later investigations. The waiting of the families is in the film as well. Michael Mueller-Erdorf’s German and Italian coproduction of 2022 runs ninety eight minutes.
