Dangan Runner

A man who has decided to rob a bank forgets his mask at home on his first job. He goes into a nearby convenience store to steal a replacement and makes a mess of that too. The clerk at the store, a rock musician whose best days are behind him, chases after him. While running he crashes into a yakuza he owes money to. So a three-man chase begins. SABU's first film is spent almost entirely running. Over a pursuit that lasts through the night in the streets of Tokyo, the pasts of all three come apart piece by piece; who is running from what is the real subject. The telling keeps comedy and violence at the same speed. The director appears in a small part himself. It is one of the best known works of Japanese independent cinema in the nineties.
