What My Blood and Bones in a Flowing Galaxy Is About
Kiyosumi rescues his schoolmate Hari from bullying, and what he feels for her grows. But Hari has a secret she does not want to tell, and it threatens the bond between them. SABU’s film begins like a high school romance and turns into an account of what bullying does to the person it lands on, and of how something that cannot be said makes a relationship impossible to carry; the narrative also opens into a fantastical register in which the real and the imagined run together. The source is a novel of the same name. Taishi Nakagawa plays Kiyosumi and Anna Ishii plays Hari, with Kaya Kiyohara and Takumi Kitamura in the cast. The Japanese production runs a hundred and twenty-seven minutes and dates from 2021.
