David Gilmour - Live at Pompeii

In July 2016 David Gilmour played two nights in the Roman amphitheatre at Pompeii. Pink Floyd had played the same place in 1971, but that filming was done with no audience; the stone tiers were empty. The two nights in 2016 were the first time the amphitheatre had been filled with an audience in almost two thousand years. Two thousand six hundred people stood where gladiators once fought. The concert was part of the tour for Gilmour's 2015 album Rattle That Lock. The set list holds pieces from both the new album and the Pink Floyd years; the only song shared with the 1971 filming is One of These Days. Gavin Elder's film runs a hundred and fifty-two minutes and shows the place itself alongside the concert. The lighting design and the stones of the amphitheatre are what separate the film from an ordinary concert recording.
