What Day of the Full Moon Is About
The film is built by linking short scenes from the Russian past and the Russian present. On a night of the full moon in 1948, a young man, a boy and a waiter see a mysterious woman in a lilac dress. The effect of that moment spreads across the years and touches more than eighty characters, a radio presenter, a gangster, Pushkin and a dog among them. Which of it is dream and which is real is never settled. The account brings past and present together inside the same cut and moves by association rather than by plot. Karen Shakhnazarov’s ninety three minute Russian film was completed in 1998.
