Descendants: The Royal Wedding

Mal and Ben are getting married. While the wedding is prepared the guest list becomes a matter: will the children of the villains be invited and what about the old enmities. Mal has to make a decision about her own mother. Meanwhile someone is trying to ruin the wedding. Salvador Simó directs. It was made as animation for television. It continues a set of three earlier live action films; being animated, its visual language is entirely different. It is short, about forty five minutes, and the narrative rests on a single event. The known idea of the series is here too: the children of fairy tale characters and what they will do with the standing they inherited. The songs are part of the narrative and the musical structure of the series is kept. It was made for viewers of the series; the characters and relations arrive unintroduced for anyone who does not know the earlier films. Its limit is scale; little happens and the film proceeds like a celebration episode. Who it is for: young viewers following the series and anyone who likes musical animation. Who it is not for: there is no context without the series, the narrative is simple, and the conflict is low throughout.
