Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween

Halloween season in Tokyo. Shibuya is crowded and the streets are full of people in costume. A wedding is taking place; two people from the police service are marrying and Conan is there. An incident occurs at the ceremony and the bride is targeted. At the same time a case from three years earlier is reopened; a police officer died in it and the man responsible has escaped from prison. There is a bomb threat in the city. Conan has to follow the wedding, the old file and the bomb at once. Susumu Mitsunaka directs. Minami Takayama and Kappei Yamaguchi are among the voices. The source is Gosho Aoyama's comic series. It is the twenty fifth feature in the series and reached the highest Conan box office figure in Japan to that date. The police academy cast is at its centre; those characters were told as a separate side series in the main comic. One strand is the past of the character Amuro, and for followers of the series that is the real matter. The Halloween crowd and the Shibuya crossing are used as its spaces. The action is on a large scale and the finale takes place in the middle of the city. Its limit is independence; the relations are confusing for anyone who does not know the side series. Another limit is mystery; the puzzle stays secondary and the film leans on action. Who it is for: followers of the Conan series and of the police academy strand. Who it is not for: it is not an entry point, there are many characters, and the mystery is weak.
