Haikyu!! the Movie: The Winner and the Loser

A compilation film assembling the second half of the first season of the Haikyu!! anime for cinemas. The Karasuno volleyball team's run through the tournament, Hinata and Kageyama learning to play together, and the season's closing matches are compressed into a single sitting. By the nature of compilation films the new material is limited, and most of the work happens in the edit. For anyone who watched the series it is a reminder; for anyone who has not, an accelerated entry point. The title points at the thing sports anime rarely handles honestly: the winner and the loser. Directed by Susumu Mitsunaka. Who it's for: Viewers who know the series and want the matches gathered on a big screen, and newcomers looking for a fast way in. Who it's not for: Anyone hoping for new scenes will get little. The character development is compressed too, so the emotional weight of the series does not fully survive.
