Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mt. Natagumo Arc

Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke are sent to Mount Natagumo to look for missing demon slayers. The entire mountain is controlled by a family of spider demons who work human limbs like puppets on threads. Waiting at the end of it is Lower Moon Five, Rui. The subject is not the fighting but the counterfeit family. Rui, having had no real family, has built one that obeys him out of fear, which is exactly why the bond between Tanjiro and Nezuko is the thing he cannot read. The form draws its power from the fact that these television episodes were animated at cinema scale. Ufotable layers computer work over traditional drawing for the water and fire effects, and the Hinokami Kagura sequence became one of the most discussed moments in the series. This is not a separate production: it stitches together episodes fifteen through twenty-one with new footage and special end credits. It went out in Japan through Fuji TV in the autumn of 2021. Haruo Sotozaki directs. The voice cast includes Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kito and Hiro Shimono. Who it is for: viewers who have seen the show and want this stretch again in one sitting. Who it is not for: anyone starting the series here; the narrative assumes the earlier episodes, and being a recap, some transitions are cramped.
